Ecorem is working on projects that combat climate change in potentially endangered areas in South Asia.
Earlier this month Ecorem decided to co-operate with the Authorities of the Maldives on a sustainable national waste policy with specific measures to reduce the co2 footprint on a number of atolls. Currently, Ecorem is also working with several leading local engineering firms in Bangladesh to draw up a sustainable waste plan to reduce greenhouse gases in the short-term.

Ecorem investigates energy and climate mitigation possibilities in Ukraine and Cyprus
Ecorem is currently working on two projects with an important climate aspect: "Rehabilitation programme for abandoned landfills in Paphos Area, Cyprus" and "Waste management in the Donbass Region, Ukraine". In the first project the possibilities for gas recuperation are investigated, as part of the entire landfill remediation design . Methane and carbon dioxide, two greenhouse gases, arise in high volume percentages at landfills. An optimal use of these gases significantly reduces the impact on climate change. The second project aims at capacity building in the field of waste management and addresses among others the aspects of energy efficiency for the biogas production out of organic waste. Both projects show it is possible to establish a sustainable management with the employment of (waste) treatment technologies and management skills.

Ecorem to start up international workshops
Ecorem will also play an active role in 2009 in the preparation of international workshops. Among others, a workshop on the management of polluted sites in Bucharest (Romania) will thus be supported.

Ecorem expands in Wallonia
In 2009, Ecorem will open additional offices in Wallonia in order to guarantee a better provision of services to local clients. The office will be fully staffed with experienced Walloon employees, always with a view to offering the right solution to a wide range of environmental problems. More information to follow.

Ecorem and other partners
As a member of the three FITA professional federations (ORI, VMD and VCB), Ecorem, in assistance with other partners, is preparing a workshop and thematic mission on the subject of infrastructure and environment for Flemish companies in the sectors of environment and infrastructure, who want to export to South-East Asia. For this initiative, Flemish co-financing will be requested.
